Speech/Language Pathology at Lake Shore Health Care Center
Speech Therapy is the treatment of speech and communication disorders. The approach used depends on the disorder. It may include physical exercises to strengthen the muscles used in speech (oral/motor work), speech drills to improve clarity, or sound production practice to improve articulation. Speech therapy also includes the evaluation and treatment of swallowing disorders.
TLC Health Network's full-time Speech/Language Pathologist is Natalie A. Hobbs, MC/CCC-SLP. Natalie has a B.S. in Speech Pathology and Audiology and an M.S. in Speech Pathology from SUNY Fredonia. She holds a NYS license as a Speech/Language Pathologist and has more than 25 years of experience in the field.

A Videofluoroscopic Swallow Study (VFSS) is the most comprehensive way to assess both the oral and pharyngeal swallow functions. It also allows visualization of the three phases of swallowing. We are able to identify specific problems in the anatomy and physiology of the swallow function. This in turn allows us to identify and utilize the appropriate compensatory/facilitation techniques to improve swallowing function and safety.
At TLC Health Network, we provide this evaluation with the expertise of experienced professionals including a licensed Speech/Language Pathologist, experienced Radiologists, and a Radiology Technician.
